POETTS Accreditation

It is recommended that clinicians reporting Perioperative CPET complete training before reporting independently. These educational targets were developed after peer review by the national CPET forum delegates. If you are interested in accrediting and already have CPET experience or are working within CPET, please contact POETTS.

Accreditation with POETTS involves:

  • Attending an accredited course which includes the following core content:
    • Equipment, calibration, validation
    • The ramp protocol, test quality, choosing the appropriate work rate protocol, normal values
    • Exercise capacity - interpreting VO2 peak and anaerobic threshold
    • Anaerobic Threshold - physiology and methods of identifying the AT including uncertainty and inter-rater variability
    • Patterns of CPET abnormality in cardiac disease
    • Patterns of CPET abnormality in respiratory disease
    • How to report, what to report and communication of results
    • Communicating risk in perioperative patients
    • Practice interpreting clinical data
  • Performing a minimum of 25 tests under supervision
  • Reporting a minimum of 50 tests under the supervision of a POETTS accredited mentor with a log book of tests

Evidence of course attendance and a signed off logbook will be required to attain accreditation.
